If you’re already annoyed by my constant cherry blossom posting on Instagram, you might want to keep on scrolling further. Because they’re one of the main actors in my April rendition of my monthly seasonal produce focused series “seasons of desire”!
CW: brief mention of su*cide in the next paragraph
My love for all the flowers blooming in spring is essentially what gave me the idea for the whole series: two years ago, amidst my usual mental health struggles and feeling like I don’t want to have to deal with all, again and again, I realized I didn’t want to go just yet because I hadn’t enjoyed all the seasonal blooms enough, and decided to stick around for at least another year. And that’s what drew me to making this series too, a celebration of the little things that convince to stay alive for a bit longer.
Initially, I wanted to focus on cherry blossoms only, but in the end I went for more pink flower beauty. I was going to include rhubarb too, but the pictures have a bit of a different vibe, so I’ll share them later, on their own. Btw, if you struggle with your creative work and feel kind stuck, I recommend starting a monthly project like this – it’s an amazing challenge and after years of not creating any new work, it feels great to experiment and make new stuff.
Speaking of experimenting, this was the first time I tried taking my still life pics outside, not just arranged on the floor of my living room. It was pretty challenging to work with the early afternoon bright light as well as trying to arrange the toys on the branches, all in the middle of the Easter festival at Berlin’s Gardens of the World, lol, but it was so worth it!
I’m really happy with the result and I hope you like it too! 🌸
These are so beautiful!
